After finding the word “slave”, which means slave, abandoned, Esme begins to collect even more words that have been overlooked by her father and the men selecting words to include in their dictionary. Growing up, Esme decides to strike out on her own, leaving the sheltered world of the university where she grew up. What she meets are the people and the words that she will add to her own dictionary: The Dictionary of Lost Words.
